The demographic history and local adaptation of Equus (2018)

To analyzing the demographic history and the genetic mechanism underlying local adaptation of the domestic Equus animals in Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and surrounding regions and building a genetic resources bank of Equus in Pan-Third Pole, we resequenced 236 domestic Equus animal samples collected until 2018, including Tibet horse, Tibet ass, domestic horses and donkeys in the plains. By applying mitochondrial DNA sequencing and D-loop sequencing on 75 samples, including 73 ass and two horses, , a batch of genetic and genome data were generated. It provides basic genetic data to analysis on domestication, immigration and expansion of domestic animals in Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. Meanwhile it helps better understand the adaption of domestic Equus animal to Qinghai-Tibet Plateau environment.

Based on Landsat MSS, TM and ETM remote sensing data, 1: 100,000 Land Use Data of China was compiled within three years by a remote sensing scientific and technological team of 19 research institutes affiliated to the Chinese Academy of Sciences, which was organized by the “Remote Sensing Macroinvestigation and Dynamic Research on the National Resources and Environment", one of the major application programs in Chinese Academy of Sciences during the "Eighth Five-year Plan". This data adopts a hierarchical land cover classification system, which divides the country into 6 first-class categories (cultivated land, forest land, grassland, water area, urban and rural areas, industrial and mining areas, residential land and unused land) and 31 second-class categories. This is the most accurate land use data product in our country at present. It has already played an important role in national land resources survey, hydrology and ecological research.

Nature reserves in Qinghai Province (1975-2012)

To better protect these precious natural heritages, rationally develop and utilize natural resources and carry out scientific research, since 1975, 11 natural reserves have been established in Qinghai province, which cover an area of 21,805,400 hectares. They account for 30.2% of the land area of Qinghai province. Six of these natural reserves are national reserves that cover an area of 20,625,900 hectares, and five are provincial reserves that cover an area of 1,179,550 hectares. Among the provincial natural reserves, the Geermu Populus Euphratica Forest and the Beichuan River Reserve in Datong County of Qinghai have already applied to be national natural reserves. The data set includes data of land and natural resources in Qinghai from 1984 to 2012. The data were derived from the Qinghai Society and Economics Statistical Yearbook and the Qinghai Statistical Yearbook. P.S: The land use data have not been updated in the yearbook since 2008. The 2008 data have been cited; therefore. The accuracy of the data is consistent with that of the statistical yearbook. There are two tables, one for natural resources data of every year, and the other is for land use data in different regions. “The land and natural resources in Qinghai” table contains the following information: Year, land, total land area, mountain, basin, river valley, Gobi desert, hilly land; cultivated land area, irrigated land; total grassland area, usable grassland, winter and spring grassland, summer and autumn grassland; forest area, forest coverage ratio, sparse forestland, shrub land, wood stocks; annual total surface runoff, Yellow River Basin, Yangtze River Basin, hydraulic theoretical reserves, installed capacity, annual power generation; coal reserves, iron ore reserves, asbestos reserves, pool salt, magnesium salt, potassium salt, boron, gold ore, lead ore, zinc ore, antimony ore, and limestone for cement. The “Land use in different regions” table includes the following information for each prefecture from 2003 to 2012: Year, region name, total area, cultivated land, garden land, forestland, grassplot, residential land use and industrial and mining land use, land for transportation, land for water conservancy facilities, and unused land.
